Inter-Agency Galactic Laser Tag Match

MagiqADs hosts a night of fun and excitement

‘All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy!’ It’s time to remove that thinking cap and get your gaming gear on!’ – this was the invite that called out to media agencies for an Inter-Agency Laser Compatition organized recently by Malaysia’s leading retail media specialist, MagiqADs Sdn. Bhd, a part of Redberry Retail. Present at the event from MagiqADs were Sailendra Kanagasundram, MagiqADs’ Business Director, Katie Lim and newly appointed Account Director, May Kim.

Five agencies – Trapper MPG, OMD Worldwide, PHD Media (M) Sdn Bhd, Carat Media Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Posterscope Malaysia, braved the Wednesday evening traffic to play fearless warriors. The participants enjoyed themselves and appreciated a fun-filled Wednesday evening that proposed a very different way for them to meet and get to know one another.

In his welcome note, Sailendra Kanagasundram said, “I believe this is an excellent opportunity for us to get to know each other better outside of the work environment and to foster better relationships. This night is truly yours, so, I’d like for all of you to let go, not think about work, and just have fun!”  

The night featured light refreshments and a karaoke session and culminated in a laser tag competition that kicked off with a ‘beginners’ version to get everyone warmed up. The mechanics of the first round were rather easy – agencies formed teams and had to zap the opposing team as many times as possible without getting zapped themselves. Once hit, the player’s gear was deactivated for 7seconds. But that was just the beginning and the game got harder with each of the three rounds that had to be played to determine the winning team.

Fast shooter, Christoper Phang, from Trapper MPG led his team to victory. Nicknamed “The Destroyer”, Christopher did just that, and destroyed his opponents’ chances of winning. He was the highest scorer in the first round, leading with over 13,000 over points. At the end of the night, Team Trapper MPG won Buffalo 1TB Hardisk each, with Christopher also bagging the individual highest score and a Gamin GPS device.

Christopher who was almost out of breath shared his experience with us saying, “This competition is really fun and it’s something out of the ordinary. I will definitely do it again. It was a great idea to have this for the agencies to meet, mingle and just have fun. Thank you MagiqADs.”

Doris Chin who represented PHD said, “This is a really fun and exciting yet a scary game – a great way to wind down after a hard day’s work. I applaud MagiqADs for being so creative. We normally contact each other about work and work only, but this time, we get to meet in an informal way, and have a chance to get to know folks form other agencies as well. I’d say this is something really different and far from the standard “makan” do.

During the second round of the competition, participants were informed that there were snakes in the arena (they found a bit later that the snakes were not poisonous) and some of them had worried looks on their faces. However, the teams went on to battle each other, reliving their carefree childhood days again.

“Awesome workout! This is a really good experience. We get to have fun and bond out of the office and in a less formal atmosphere. Thank you for the opportunity MagiqADs, I will surely do this again,” said Roland Lee from Posterscope.

At the end of the night, everyone was a winner in their own way. New friendships were formed, and most importantly, everyone went home with a smile on the face, reminiscing the carefree days they had as a kid, playing warriors.
